Intervention and Enrichment

Our Model of Learning emphasises differentiated learning and a deep commitment that 'all students will learn at PHS' regardless of their starting point. Teachers provide a bespoke Learning Tracker for every student, in every class. This Tracker sets our learning opportunities and 'next steps' across a 5 point scale from Emerging to Enrichment. We strive for all students to meet the Essential Standard.

We offer a wide range of supports tailored to individual needs, including:

  • Targeted literacy and numeracy support programs to strengthen foundational skills.

  • Wellbeing supports through our dedicated team of teachers, support staff, counsellors and wellbeing professionals.

  • Extension and enrichment opportunities and curriculum pathways for students requiring additional academic challenge.

  • Personalised learning support programs for students requiring adjustments or personalised strategies, overseen by our Head of Inclusion.

  • Clubs, co-curricular programs and leadership pathways to ensure every learner finds a place to connect, contribute and grow.

By combining high expectations, rigorous use of learning assessment data and high levels of care, we ensure that every student, regardless of background or learning need, is supported to succeed and to flourish.

Where students require additional learning support, we use a tiered approach to intervention that includes strategies such as:

  • Team-Teaching for some core subjects, allowing for extensive differentiation and small group support
  • An after school homework club, staffed by teachers
  • Small group programs focusing on building core literacy skills that run alongside regular learning programs
  • 1-1 Tutoring and intensive literacy and numeracy support programs
  • Learning Support staff (teacher aides) are in most core classes, and provide further specialised support for students with high needs.
