All students participate in practical and theory based learning relating to health, mindfulness and fitness through their Healthy Body, Healthy Mind classes, which run for 3 x 75 minute sessions each week.

Our gymnasium and active terrace are our core facilities for sports sessions. We also have great connections with the Victorian School for the Deaf, Prahran Swimming Pool and Prahran Football Club ensuring access to sports ovals and specialised facilities when needed for sports training.

Throughout the year, students can choose to participate in inter-school sports. Each term, a broad range of sports are offered, allowing students the chance to train and compete against local government schools.

In time we will also run a program of House sports within the school. Our House system will be developed by the students across 2019 and 2020, and will involve athletics, swimming and cross-country, as well as a range of other activities to further engage with sports and fitness.

At Prahran High School, we also encourage students to seek further participation in sports and fitness activities beyond the core school programs:

  • Our PHS Basketball Academy is a voluntary program that provides students with 2 x 90 minute sessions each week of intensive skills development and training with professional basketball coaches.
  • Our fitness club runs after schools each week and provides some different opportunities to learn about health and fitness training.
  • Lunchtime sports in our gymnasium each day for those students who wish to participate.
  • Sporting workshops run in conjunction with local sporting groups (such as the local gymnastic club) – these introductions will generally run for an 8-10 week intensive period, giving students the chance to trial a new sport and learn some new skills
